Our first casting attempt at bitraf

Our furnace! we bougth this on ebay for about 400$

We did not know anything about metalcasting, nor safety, as you can see from the pictures.

i did my first casting experiments in cuttlebone, in wich we carved our patterns.

cuttlebone is a hard, brittle internal structure wich suports the body of cuttlefish. we used a screwdriver to make the negative pattern.

This is the two carved halves, i used nails as register pins.

The two halves is assembled by the use of tape.

A styrofoam funnel is inserted, and the mold burried in the sand. Now, the metal is ready to be poured.

The piece freshly extracted from the sand.

This is the result after i sawed off the excess material.
